THINGS TO DO IN THIMPHU EP 10: BEST COFFEE PLACES

Greetings Travellers,

Particularly in the west, coffee has become a part of the daily life. My name is Kinga and in this blog, I will cover the best coffee places based on my own personal experience. The people of Bhutan is not customed to having coffee every morning. It is not part of our daily lives. This is one of the reasons why the coffee's served by the coffee shops are not up to the standard that you've been experiencing at home. However, it is gradually picking up as barista's are getting professionally trained in the art of coffee making.

Over the years, there have been many coffee shops popping up in and around Thimphu city, Paro town and in other regions. I've visited over 15 coffee shops in Thimphu and I must say that the coffee's I tasted are not worth the money. It is either bland, not properly brewed & most barista's do not have certification, so they do not know how each type of coffee is brewed.

During my coffee tasking adventure, I've come across two places where I found that the coffee's served were actually good enough to be called an actual coffee. I've no affiliation to these places but I am sharing this based on my own personal experience.

1. Ambient Cafe

This cafe is located in the main core Thimphu town and is very popular among expats, travellers and locals alike. They roast their own coffee beans up stairs. As you enter the cafe, you can smell the fresh aroma of their coffee. The place is very cozy for all seasons. You can also purchase their packaged coffee beans if you love them. Out of 5, I would rate their coffee 4.

2. M Bistro
This is a cafe located in Motithang, Thimphu. It is around 15 drive away from Thimphu town. The cafe is a part of a 4 star hotel call The Pema by Realm. The bistro is located on the ground floor. The places is well lit and has comfortable seating. They do serve a variety of food along with coffee as well. Except for 1 time out of 4-5 times, I got very good coffee that genuinely tasted good. Out of 5, I rate their coffee 4.

So make sure to check out these places if you are a coffee person.

WELCOME TO BHUTAN!
