PLACES TO VISIT IN PUNAKHA EP 2: TALO MONASTERY
Greetings travellers,
Have you heard of the Talo monastery which is popular among locals and is gaining popularity among travellers as well. My name is Kinga and in this blog, you can find brief details of Talo Monastery.
Talo Monastery, also known as Talo Goemba, is a prominent Buddhist monastery located in the Punakha District of Bhutan. Perched on a hilltop at an elevation of about 2,800 meters, the monastery offers panoramic views of the surrounding valley and distant mountains. Established in the 17th century, it is historically linked to Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the founder and unifier of Bhutan. The complex consists of several temples and structures showcasing intricate woodwork and traditional Bhutanese art.
The monastery is renowned for its annual Talo Tshechu festival, which is a significant religious event featuring masked dances, known as Cham dances, and traditional music. This festival attracts both locals and tourists, providing a glimpse into Bhutanese culture and religious practices. The well-maintained gardens surrounding the monastery are home to a variety of flora, including rhododendrons and magnolias, adding to the serene atmosphere of the site. This very festival is what makes this place very popular. The Talo festival takes place in the month of March and hundred's of locals and travellers alike visit this place to witness the festival.
Another reason why this place & the festival in particular is popular is because it falls in one of the best months for visiting Bhutan. March-May are spring months which are the best months to travel to Bhutan because of its favourable weather condition. While you get the best weather wise, you will get to witness one of the iconic festivals as well. Get in touch to know more and how your trip can be arranged!.
WELCOME TO BHUTAN!
