NAITONAL SYMBOL OF BHUTAN EP 2: NATIONAL DAY

Greetings Travellers,

What is a National Day? My name is Kinga and in this blog, you can briefly find out about the national day of Bhutan, how it originated and its significance.

The National Day of Bhutan, celebrated on December 17th each year, marks a significant moment in the country's history. It commemorates the coronation of the first King of Bhutan, Ugyen Wangchuck, in 1907, establishing the Wangchuck dynasty that continues to rule Bhutan today. This day is not just a celebration of the monarchy but also a reflection of Bhutan's unity, sovereignty, and progress over the years. The event holds deep cultural and historical significance, symbolizing the birth of modern Bhutan and the beginning of a new era of peace and stability.

The celebrations are held in various parts of the country, with the main event usually taking place in the capital, Thimphu, or another selected city. The day is marked by a grand parade, cultural performances, and traditional dances, showcasing Bhutan's rich cultural heritage. The King addresses the nation, reflecting on the past year’s achievements and challenges, and outlines the vision for the future. The ceremony is attended by government officials, foreign dignitaries, and citizens from all walks of life, who come together to express their patriotism and pride in their nation's achievements.

National Day is also a time for Bhutanese people to honor our unique identity, rooted in the principles of Gross National Happiness, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation. It serves as a reminder of the country's commitment to maintaining its traditions while embracing progress. The day is a profound expression of national pride and unity, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose among the Bhutanese people.
