FOOD IN BHUTAN

Greetings dear travellers,
My name is Kinga and this blog will cover what the kind of food the locals eat & what other options you can get.

The main dish of Bhutan is called the "Ema-Datshi" aka chili cheese. It is basically a curry where fresh chillies either in green or red is used and then local cow cheese is used as an ingredient and some salt for taste. It is a very simple dish to make and most tourist tend to try it out once on their visit to Bhutan. The level of spiciness can either be increased or reduced depending on your palette. This very dish can be made in a lot of varieties.

Some of the varieties are:

i. Chilli cheese with gravy

ii. Chilli cheese with soup

iii. Chilli cheese with other veg items like mushroom, onion or tomato

iv. Chili cheese with beef pieces, pork pieces for non-veg lovers

If you're wondering if the Bhutanese are only consuming chillies, then the answer is no. Chilli cheese is the main dish while there are a whole lot of variety available in both veg and non-veg. So make sure to try it out once while in Bhutan. You will either love it or would prefer sticking to your own preference of continental.

Apart from the bhutanese dishes, you can also find many different cuisines:

i. Continental

ii. Chinese

iii. Indian

iv. Thai

v. Vietnamese (Thimphu)
