1. Tashichho Dzong
 A majestic fortress and monastery located on the northern edge of the city, Tashichho Dzong serves as the seat of the government and houses the throne room and offices of the king. It is also the summer residence of the central monk body.

2. Buddha Dordenma Statue
 This massive statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, standing at 169 feet, is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park. It overlooks the southern entrance of Thimphu Valley and houses thousands of smaller Buddha statues inside.

3. National Memorial Chorten
Built in 1974 in memory of the third King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, this stupa is a prominent landmark and a place of daily worship for many locals, who walk around it in a clockwise direction.

4. Motithang Takin Preserve
This wildlife reserve area is dedicated to the Takin, the national animal of Bhutan. The preserve allows visitors to see this unique creature, which resembles a cross between a goat and an antelope, in a natural setting.
