Winter: December, January, February
Bhutan is an all season year round destination particularly because of its unique favourable weather throughout the year. However, the best time to visit Bhutan or the best month to visit Bhutan is during spring & summer months.
During the months of March, April & May, the weather is the most favourable of all seasons. Flowers are starting to bloom, the days are sunny everyday with temperatures not exceeding 15 degrees. Evenings can get a little cold or cool depending on how you adapt. Spring is the most ideal of all seasons and the best time to visit Bhutan. There are few prominent festivals which takes place in these months. The popular Paro tshechu, Talo Tshechu, Gasa Tshechu to name a few are some of the most happening festivals in Bhutan. This festivals adds more value as to why you should visit Bhutan in spring.
June, July & August months are summer months in Bhutan. Until the end of June, there will be very light shower which makes Bhutan the best country to visit around this time. July & August are peak summer months so the weather will be a mix of moderate/heavy rainfall with temperatures ranging between 15 degree to 30 degrees. The rain however cools down the overall temperature making Bhutan an ideal place to visit in Summer and to escape the summer heat in other countries. The lush green forest also adds to keeping the place cool, green and enjoyable.
September, October & November are the second best months to visit Bhutan. With summer over and autumn setting in, the rainfall becomes light & moderate depending on the weather forecast with most days being cool and sunny making it ideal for travel. The second best reason as to why autumn months are the best time to visit Bhutan is because of its unique and most popular festival happening in the month of September which is called the Thimphu Tshechu/festival. It is a grand celebration which goes on for 3 days and visitors are highly recommended to visit Bhutan to experience this unique festival. Kindly be advised that if you intend to visit this festival, you will need to book your tour way in advance as the flight gets pre-booked in advance and the best hotels gets fully booked. So to get the full experience, book your tour in advance.
December, January, February are winter months here in Bhutan. The temperature is much cooler during the day and can get bit cold after sunset. Make sure to bring in warm clothes if you are travelling in these months. Some high altitude regions will experience moderate to heavy snow at this time the year. If you like the cool morning and warm afternoon, then the winter months are the best time to travel for you and your family. Personally for me, I prefer the winter months and spring months as the best time as the weather is so much better with clear sky throughout the day with cool breeze blowing on your face. Travel to Bhutan this winter and experience for yourself.
The only thing you as a traveller wishing to visit Bhutan is to consider what sort of weather you like. If you like clear sky with warm sunny days, spring is the best time to visit Bhutan. Most travellers visit Bhutan in these 3 months. If the occasional shower do not bother you then, summer months are ideal for travel. If the mix of spiritual and cultural exploration is what interests you then visit Bhutan in either spring or autumn. If none of the above 3 seasons suits your availability cuz of parental obligations, then visit Bhutan during school holidays which will fall on the winter months. So whichever month you choose to visit Bhutan, there is something in store for you.
Plan you next journey to Bhutan and experience something unique and different from the rest! WELCOME
