8 Nights & 9 Days in Bhutan: Tour Itinerary for Indian Visitors

Day 1: Arrival in Baghdora and Drive to Phuntsholing (153 km, approx. 4 hours)
After a long journey, you'll arrive in Baghdora, and from there, we'll embark on a scenic drive to Phuntsholing, a vibrant town near the Indian border. Once in Phuntsholing, you can stretch your legs by taking a leisurely walk around the town, immersing yourself in the local atmosphere and observing the daily life of the residents. In the evening, we'll enjoy a delicious dinner to fuel up for the exciting days ahead.

Day 2: Phuntsholing to Thimphu (130 km, 4-5 hours)
After breakfast, we'll hit the road and journey to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The drive itself will be a treat, taking you through breathtaking landscapes and offering glimpses of Bhutanese rural life. Upon arrival in Thimphu, we'll have lunch and then dive into exploring the city's highlights. We'll visit Kaja Throm, a historic temple with intricate carvings, followed by a visit to the Craft Bazaar, where you can admire and purchase beautiful traditional Bhutanese handicrafts. Next, we'll stop by the Royal Textile Academy (RTA) and the Voluntary Artists' Studio (VAST) to learn about the country's rich artistic heritage.

Day 3: Thimphu Sightseeing
Today, we'll delve deeper into Thimphu's cultural treasures. First, we'll visit the Takin Preserve, a sanctuary for the national animal of Bhutan, the unique and endearing takin. Next, we'll make our way to Buddha Point, where a massive Buddha statue sits atop a hill, offering panoramic views of the city. After that, we'll explore the Simply Bhutan Museum, a living museum that showcases the country's traditional arts and crafts. Our next stop will be Zorig Chusum, where you'll witness skilled artisans practicing the 13 traditional arts and crafts of Bhutan. We'll also visit the Tashichodzong viewpoint for a stunning panorama of the iconic fortress-monastery. In the evening, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll through Thimphu's streets, soaking in the unique blend of traditional and modern elements.

Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha (79 km, 2 hours + driving time)
After breakfast, we'll depart for Punakha, a beautiful valley known for its dzongs (fortresses) and monasteries. On the way, we'll stop at the Dochula Pass, famous for its 108 chortens (stupas) and breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayas. Once in Punakha, we'll embark on a short hike to the Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the "Temple of Fertility," a quirky and interesting site. After that, we'll visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, an impressive fortress-monastery at the confluence of two rivers. Finally, we'll cross the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan, offering stunning views of the valley.

Day 5: Punakha to Paro (171 km, 5 hours + driving time)
Our day will begin with a hike to the Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten, a beautiful stupa nestled in the valley. After lunch, we'll hit the road again, heading towards Paro, a scenic drive that will take us through picturesque landscapes and villages. Upon arrival in Paro, you can relax and prepare for the adventures that await in this charming town.

Day 6: Paro Sightseeing (37 km, 1-2 hours driving time)
Today, we'll start with an excursion to Chelela, a scenic mountain pass offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. After soaking in the natural beauty, we'll return to Paro and visit the National Museum, which showcases a rich collection of Bhutanese art, artifacts, and cultural heritage. In the evening, you can enjoy a leisurely walk around the town, immersing yourself in the local atmosphere and perhaps indulging in some shopping or dining.

Day 7: Hike to Tiger's Nest (Paro Taktsang) and Paro Sightseeing
Today's highlight is the iconic hike to the Tiger's Nest Monastery, also known as Paro Taktsang. This sacred site, precariously perched on a cliffside, is a true marvel of architecture and spirituality. The hike will take approximately 3-4 hours round trip, depending on your pace, but the stunning views and the sense of accomplishment make it worth every step. After the hike, we'll visit the National Museum again (in case you missed it the previous day) and explore the ruins of the Drugyel Dzong, a historic fortress with a fascinating history. If you're interested, you can also indulge in a traditional hot stone bath, a relaxing experience perfect after a day of hiking (additional cost).

Day 8: Paro to Phuntsholing (142 km, 4 hours + driving time)
After breakfast, we'll bid farewell to Paro and embark on our journey back to Phuntsholing. The drive will be scenic, offering one last chance to soak in the beauty of Bhutan's landscapes. Upon arrival in Phuntsholing, you can spend the evening exploring the town and perhaps doing some last-minute shopping or trying local cuisine.

Day 9: Departure from Baghdora
Sadly, our incredible journey through Bhutan must come to an end. After breakfast, we'll drive from Phuntsholing to Baghdora, where you'll catch your flight or begin your onward journey, carrying with you memories that will last a lifetime.
