7 Nights & 8 Days in Bhutan

Day 1: Arrival in Paro
After landing at the scenic Paro Airport, tucked away in the Himalayan mountains, I'll be greeted by my local guide and driven to Thimphu, the capital city. The drive alone promises stunning views of the valley!

Day 2: Exploring Thimphu
Time to dive into Bhutan's rich culture and history! I'll visit the takin preserve to see the quirky national animal, marvel at the massive Buddha Dordenma statue at Buddha Point, and immerse myself in Bhutanese traditions at the Simply Bhutan museum and Zorig Chusum arts school. The Tashichho Dzong monastery fortress and lively Craft Bazaar await before an evening stroll.

Day 3: Thimphu to Phobjikha
An overland journey through scenic mountain passes takes me to the Phobjikha Valley. Here, I'll visit the Black-Necked Crane Center to learn about these majestic birds and their winter habitat. A stop at the Gangtey Monastery and perhaps a light nature hike completes the day.

Day 4: Phobjikha to Punakha
More adventure as I head to Punakha! En route, I'll stop at the quirky Chimi Lhakhang temple and walk along the famous suspension bridge over the Mo Chu river. Then it's on to the impressive Punakha Dzong monastery at the confluence of two rivers.

Day 5: Punakha Valley
A day to explore Punakha's natural beauty with a hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a scenic stop at the nunnery, and perhaps an adrenaline rush with white water rafting! The lively Punakha weekend market promises local handicrafts and delicacies.

Day 6: Punakha to Paro
After viewing the Wangdue Phodrang Dzong, crossing over the Dochula Pass with its 108 memorials, we will go to National Museum in Paro, learning about Bhutan's fascinating "Bardo" traditions. The long drive gives me a chance to soak up more mountain scenery.

Day 7: The Tiger's Nest
The highlight – a trek to the cliffside Taktshang Goemba (Tiger's Nest Monastery)! This incredible Buddhist site clings to the rock face 900m above the valley floor. Afterwards, I'll visit the ruined Drujeyl Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples.

Day 8: Departure
All too soon, it's time to depart this magical Himalayan kingdom. But the memories of Bhutan's ancient fortresses, fluttering prayer flags, and warm people will linger forever.
