11 Nights & 12 Days in Bhutan: Tour Itinerary for Indian Visitors


Day 1
Travel from Baghdora to the border town of Phuntsholing (around 4 hour drive). After arriving, take an evening stroll around the lively town and have dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2
Leave Phuntsholing and drive about 4-5 hours to reach Bhutan's capital, Thimphu. After checking in to your hotel and having lunch, spend the afternoon exploring Kaja Throm art village, browsing handicrafts at the Craft Bazaar, and visiting the celebrated Royal Textile Academy and museum.

Day 3
Today is devoted to experiencing Thimphu's top sights. Start at the Takin Preserve to view Bhutan's bizarre national animal. Then visit Buddha Point, home to one of the world's largest Buddha statues. After lunch, immerse yourself in Bhutanese culture at the Simply Bhutan museum and watch artisans at work at the Zorig Chusum crafts school. End the day with sunset views from Tashichho Dzong monastery and an evening stroll.

Day 4
Depart Thimphu for the long drive to Bumthang (around 7 hours). Relax and enjoy the scenic mountain landscapes along the way.

Day 5
Explore the cultural highlights of Bumthang valley, including the Jamphel and Kurjey monasteries, and 16th century Tamshing monastery. Tour the Bumthang brewery to sample their famous Red Panda beer, then take an evening stroll through town.

Day 6
Leave Bumthang and drive around 4 hours to reach the Phobjikha valley. Stop en route to visit the imposing Trongsa Dzong fortress. Upon arrival at Phobjikha, visit the Black-Necked Crane visitor center to learn about these sacred birds, and explore the picturesque Gangtey Monastery. An optional nature hike is available for those interested.

Day 7
Depart Phobjikha for the scenic 2-hour drive to Punakha. Start with a short hike to the fertility temple of Chimi Lhakhang. After lunch, tour the iconic Punakha Dzong monastery at the confluence of two rivers, and walk across the Longest Suspension Bridge in Bhutan.

Day 8
Spend the morning on a half-day hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten, a colorful stupa and temple complex. After lunch, drive 5 hours to the Paro valley.

Day 9
Enjoy a day trip to the famous Chelela Pass (around 2 hours driving). En route, stop to view the beautiful Haa valley. After returning to Paro town, visit the excellent National Museum and take an evening walk.

Day 10
The big highlight - embark on the iconic hike up to the cliffside Tiger's Nest monastery, one of Bhutan's most sacred sites (3-4 hours round trip). Spend the afternoon visiting Drugyel Dzong ruins and the National Museum in depth.

Day 11
Depart Paro and drive back to Phuntsholing (around 4 hours), stopping for photos and to stretch your legs. Have a final evening stroll in lively Phuntsholing town.

Day 12
Transfer to Bagdogra airport to catch your departing flight, having experienced the very best of this Himalayan kingdom!
